just that, my 95 a4 runs great, the security light just comes on once in a while while driving down the road and then i notice the transmission starts shifting funny, either really soft or hard as hell ""which the hard shifting i dont mind" but anyway what could it be? when the lights off it runs like a new car?? any idea thanks

 

Security light? Do you mean the Service Engine Soon light? My SES light comes on every now and then too, sometimes for a long time and sometimes for a short time. Now my tranny won't shift out of first, the rev limiter doesn't even pick it up. I wonder if the same thing is happening to you, because mine made some weird shifts, then just quit shifting all together. Unless i take my foot off the gas then lightly push it, then it'll shift into second slightly.

 

I think he's talking about the light that says security. Mine used to come on quite abit too, but it never affected the way the trans shifted. hmm... if you have a mail order tune try having the person remove the vats(security) from the comp, that may help.

 

its the security light not ses. some how and i dont know which or how but either the pcm or bcm is affecting the tranny or more possible a wire in the tranny is doing something funky and messing with the pcm or bcm, was wondering if anyone else might have ever noticed a link between these, its a stock pcm and car. the car when bought used 7 years ago gave tranny problems and security problems the rebuild guy could never get the A4 right he gave up on it after 6 rebuilds in 5 months said it could have been the tranny housing or valve body was warped up and paid for a low mileage stock replacepent from a T/A in junk yard, car ran awsome until last winter when this stuff started happing agian, but the tranny is not burning up as it did before just doing some wierd shifting almost as if it was the tps but i changed the tps out and the harness but that didnt help at all,and just noticed earlier today that it shifts fine til that security light comes on, you can cut it off the crank it and it will reset, how ever on ocassion the common light when trying to start will come on solid then go out after 3 or 4 min, and start fine but it dosnt do that oftenjust coming on alot while driving maybe for 5 min or 5 secs or until u cut it off. HELP PLEASE this is driving me up the wall........enough said..anyone have a good tranny for sale ?????

could bypassing the relay behind the glove box help any at all if so i will do it just sick of messing with this thing, any body lookin for a z??? I HAVE ONE TO SPARE lol really though its a good strong running stocker so i would like to get this bug out of it,

 

A 95 has no BCM. Bypassing the relay won't fix the security lamp. Without looking at wiring diagrams, there would be no way to tell if there was anything common to the VATS and transmission (I can't think of anything right-off). You might check for trouble codes to see if that gives you any direction. Transmsission codes often don't cause the SES to come on, but the code will be stored.
