sealing

I used rtv black on both sides and around the top of the plug and then ran small bead around the rim and then bolted it together while once it was tacky.

would it be a good idea to put loctite on the rotor bolts? ive heard they could come loose.

i'm buying a delphi opti tonight, and would like to know because with my car, the car revs up to 6800 rpm. way more than the stock opti asks for.

I do it all the time on both vented & non-vented optis. On the non vented (94 and older) I actually drill 2 of the lower vent holes & tap & plug them w/ 10/24 screws. The hole nearest Cylinder 1, drill out 3/16 & install a 90 degree fittilg. On the cap, I'll install a vacuum fitting by melting an opening w/ soldering iron & epoxy-ing it in the same location as the post 94 ~ then use the GM 95 & up vacuum harness.

Now, putting the opti back together, ALWAYS use lock-tite on the two rotor screws. On each of the interfaces e.g. between the cap & aluminum body ~ I'll run a small bead of OEM black silicone. When the opti is all together, I'll run a bead around the interfaces to finish it off. This helps the vacuum work & keeps out moisture.

For the vented opti ~ I'll take the new one apart, Lock-tite the two rotor screws & silicone the interfaces on re assembly ~ just be neat ~ it does not take much silicone!

One more thing on moisture ~ your biggest problem is the weep hole in the waterpump. Take a 1" piece of 3/16" steel brake line & epoxy it into the weap hole leaving about 1/2 sticking out. Then install a length of 3/16" rubber hose & route it so it discharges under the car and not on the opti ~ Its also much easier in the future to pin point when the water pump is leaking.

After reading all these horror stories about the opti's, I think that when i do the head job, I'll take it apart and seal it up with that pump trick.
I just bought this car last week for cheap 'cause of the heads but with this opti fix maybe i'ts gonna run for a while.. ??
