Screeching starter problem.

Screeching starter problem.
Hello, I was wondering if anybody could help me with my 97 Formula.
Whenever I start the car cold, I hear a loud screech which seems to be coming from the starter, also if I rev it when it's cold it will screech, and sometimes at WOT it will screech. The screech only lasts for a second or two but it is annoying.
I thought the problem was the starter so I replaced it but the screech didn't go away. I bought some washers and I put two of them on each bolt to try and space out the starter but it didn't seem to make any difference.
Should I just keep adding washers? Also does anybody know if the two long/thin gold screws do anything on the starter? Do you have to adjust them? From what I know I believe it still has the stock flywheel if that matters.
Thanks, appreciate any input or ideas.

Re: Screeching starter problem.
by you saying that it happens when u rev it up makes me think that it might be that you need a new belt. i would check if its worn or if you havent replaced it lately i would do that. i think it is like 30 or so.

Like red said, the starter is out of the picture once the engine is running. So your problem is the belt. You should replace the tensioner when you replace the belt and be sure to check any idler pulleys for bad bearings.
BTW be sure the clearance between the flywheel and starter gear is about the distance of a paper clip.
