Scat 9000 or stock for my setup?

I have been debating on what to do about my crank for a while now. I cant decide if it is necessary to purchase a new crank or not, and honestly I am not an expert as to say how much HP the stock crank can handle.

The reason why this decision is so hard is due to the fact that I live in Alaska. Shipping costs for a new crank are upwards of the 100 dollar range plus the cost of the crank.

I will be going with the setup in my signature with the addition of some lloyd elliot heads down the road.

So max of prolly 400-420 rwhp Naturally Aspirated.

i would only buy a new crank if yours is trashed or you wanted more cubic inches.

And by more cubic inches you are referring to a 3.75 stroke? Not by simply boring .030 over to create a 355. My crank looks to be in excellent condition.

Re: Scat 9000 or stock for my setup?

I would just use a stock crank for a NA motor. The stock cranks are pretty tough. A buddy of mine has a blown 355 Z and the motor grenaded on him at the track a while back. The motor wasn't built write from when he bought it and the compression ratio was too high. With 10 pounds of boost, the car made 585RWHP and when the motor went, it ruined everything except the rods and the stock crank. He had the motor professionaly rebuilt and he re-used the same stock crank and the rods, the car still puts down 572RWHP. It's funny, when we picked the motor up after is was rebuilt, he asked the builder how much HP the stock crank is good for and I like his reply "at least 600HP." If you are intersested in a good stock crank, I have one that you can have if you want to pay shipping. I was going to use it but ended up buying a Cola forged since I am planning on running about 15 pounds of boost and making (hopefully) 600-650 RWHP.

Has it already been machined and shot peened etc? I was going to reuse mine, but I need to take it to the machine shop to have them check it first.

Scat crank IMO isnt going to be any stronger then stock. Get your stock one polished up and you'll be fine.

UPS will ship a 69# crank package from our plant in New York to Anchorage for about $23. That's insuring it for $300 also. It's 3 day ground service. It's strange, but shipping it from California is 4 days and about $33. Hmmm. Shipping shouldn't be the problem.

IMO, with Lloyd's head and cam packages, the power will be about what you said, and the stock crank will handle it easily.

what about a LE2 and full bolt ons, then spray? say 150 shot? or maybe more? What would happen to the crank then. Assuming the LE2 was setup well and making a lil over 400 at the rear wheels.

IMO it might last for a while, but you could easily turn a nice 400 rwhp driver into scrap metal. The good news is that with China producing nearly 40% of the world's steel, they need lots of scrap metal and scrap prices are at an all time high. You might get upward of a nickle a pound for it. IOW, you might be pressing it with a 150 shot.

Thanks guys, I will have the machine shop check my crank and reuse it.

Also OldSStroker, The only way you can get items shipped here is 2nd day air or equivalant due to the fact that there isnt any way to get it here by ground. Unless they are going to drive through Canada to deliver items here. Which I have NEVER heard of. Only Air Frieght. But if your company will only charge me 23 for shipping it with insurance, I would jump on that deal.

Oops, I didn't catch the 150hp shot of joy juice. It won't like that much on top of a 400hp NA motor.

Hrmm... Would the Scat 9000 handle the 150 on top of the 400HP N/A.

Yeah, 3 days implies some form of air from the contiguous states, doesn't it?
Give me your ZIP and I'll check into it with UPS. I'm interested.
