Scat 9000 or stock for my setup?
Re: Scat 9000 or stock for my setup?
We re-used the stock crank in my old car for several years (355 on a 150 shot) Was abused very hard.
It's unneccessary but we lightened the counterweights by contouring them, had the areas coated to shed oil better, re-ground it leaving a better radious on the journnals and then nitriding the bearing surfaces. I didn't do any of it , but my machinists just had liberty from me to make it strong, he said I would have been better off money wise buying a forged crank, but the stuff I had him do was not a necessity. The crank is still going in a different motor...lol
When we pulled it out of the other motor it looked like it did when we put it in.

With 10 pounds of boost, the car made 585RWHP and when the motor went, it ruined everything except the rods and the stock crank. He had the motor professionaly rebuilt and he re-used the same stock crank and the rods, the car still puts down 572RWHP. It's funny, when we picked the motor up after is was rebuilt, he asked the builder how much HP the stock crank is good for and I like his reply "at least 600HP." If you are intersested in a good stock crank, I have one that you can have if you want to pay shipping. I was going to use it but ended up buying a Cola forged since I am planning on running about 15 pounds of boost and making (hopefully) 600-650 RWHP.

Yes, I have still got it. I got the crank from an engine builder that did mostly LT1/LS1 stuff. I bought the crank and a block from him but I am using the block in my buildup but like I said, I bought a bran new crank so I still have the stock one. Just let me know.

I can give you some feedback on the SCAT 9000 series crank. I've destroyed just about everything possible in the motor so far minus the crank and pistons. I took all a LE2 setup could throw at it plus a 250 shot out of the hole! Now I've switched to a bigger cam and th350 with a transbrake, once I get to the track Ill let you know how it does with that.
