scared to cam my 100k mile LT1
I threw a CC306 in the car recently with 102k on the clock. I took my time pulling and installing the cams, the longer bolts you can get on the front the better. So far so good, a few 6500rpm revs and still ok. I'm not really worried since it not my DD, but I'll be dropping a 200+ shot on it soon, so we'll see what I get first 10's or a new motor.

Why anyone would rev a LT1 to 6500 RPM's is above me being they decline in power as fast as possible after 6200.
On the subject of cammin the high mileage engine its like gambling.
My friend brad cammed his 93 with 192,000 miles and it now has 210,000 mils with a Huuge cam, stock heads and he revs the crap out of it. Ran a 12.6@edgewater.
On the other hand I cammed my LT1 with 120k on it and drove it for less then 2k and the a rod bearing went.
I had no fear of camming a higher mile car cause My old ls1 has been cammed for over 30,000 miles and has over 150 on it now with out one problem. But then again its a 6 bolt main engine
That mind set has changed.I now have a 1995 Z that has had nothing but syntec and I will not cam it because I dont have the time to throw in another LT1 for craps and giggles.
I cammed mine at 122k and now has 130k. so far no problems. Just like someone else said. Take your time and be very clean. No tugging, or jerking around. Make sure you get no dirt when u put the new cam in and no crap gets into engine when u got the intake off. Also just take a look at your cam bearings when you pull the old cam out. See if they look worn. If not throw the new cam in and just start praying. lol
My cam isnt monstrous, 227/232 i think, forgot exactly, but somewhere in that area.
