Scanning for codes in a 93?
Re: Scanning for codes in a 93?
Really easy:
Straighten a paper clip out. With the key OFF, insert one end into the top right port on the ALDL, and insert the other end into the top row second from the right. You'll have the paperclip bent in a "U" and the two upper right ports jumped together. Now turn the key ON ignition OFF. You'll hear the fans come on and the SES light will start flashing:
Flash Pause Flash Flash Long Pause and repeat two more times. This is DTC 12 showing that the computer is in diagnostic mode. After it flashes DTC 12 three times, it will start flashing any stored codes in the same configuration. I.E. DTC 36 would be:
Flash Flash Flash Pause Flash Flash Flash Flash Flash Flash Long Pause three times.
Write down any codes that come up. Once all the codes have been flashed, the computer will continually flash DTC 12. At this point you can turn the Key OFF and remove the paperclip, and you're done.
DON'T rely on a chiltons/haynes manual for correct 93 DTC descriptions. They're a conglomeration of sorts of 93's and 94-95's. This Link has all of the 93 DTC's (including diagnostic charts) scanned directly from a GM service manual.
