Scanners can't retrieve codes

Scanners and code readers cannot retrieve anything from the port under the dash. And yes I'm using obd2 scanners in my obd2 car.
Any ideas?

I read in one post with a similar problem someone told them to check the cig lighter fuse. Well I checked mine and there wasn't a so I put one in. Are the code reader port and cig lighter on the same fuse? I don't have access to a scanner right now so I have to play the wait and pray game.

They're both on the same circuit.

That should solve your problem. I had the same problem after I popped mine. If you have an Autozone open near you, they will let you borrow an OBD2 scanner for free as long as you use it in the parking lot.

Sure enough the fuse solved my problems but the car still idles and drives horrible. I scanned it and 6 codes popped up:

3 codes are unknown: p6701, p6001, and p7104.

The 3 real codes were:

p0100 --maf related
p0131 -- b1s1
p0140 -- b2s2

I also got another code, I don't remember the number but I believe it was bank one lean. I then tested for misfire and got this cute little table:

1--1 0--2
3--4 0--4
5--4 0--6
7--45 0--8

Cylinder 7 has 45 fricken misfires and the whole side has misfires. Yet the other bank is totally void of them. Would a bad maf or bad maf wire harness cause this sort of thing, or is this opti related or what?

I installed LTs over a month ago without any problems other than the motor mounts needing to be changed. 2 weeks ago I re-oiled the KN filter and then the problems started. I got maf cleaner and cleaned out the maf and reset codes and did all this detective work and it still idles bad.

I have new spark plugs and wires ready for install. I just want to see what you guys think.

P0100 is a static signal from the MAF sensor. It isn't sensing the air flow correctly. Over-oiled filter would explain this.

P0131 indicates the Bank 1 pre-cat sensor has a relatively stationary lean signal condition, staying below 200mV. If its a "true" lean condition, its running lean enough to misfire, if its a "false" lean condtion, the PCM is incorrectly adding excessive fuel, making it run rich and misfire.

P0140 indicates the Bank 1 after-cat sensor has an open circuit. Reading is relatively static in the range of 391-491mV. Sound like your extension is faulty.

Alos since you mentioned you did LT's i am going to say you might have some burnt wires. I think that will cause a false lean and the pcm will dump even more fuel in makeing it miss fire worse.

So yeah check your wires really good visually and then take the car some were dark and look for arching, you can also use a spary bottle and mist the wires and see it that show them arching.

I'm a rattled mess right now and I seem to be worrying about is why one side of the engine is misfiring especially #7 while the other side is fine. Which side is the odd numbered cylinders?

Do you guys think having the pcm tuned out of the rear o2s will help this? Sorry if you guys explained what to do already, like I said nothing makes sense to me right now.

I got new wires and plugs last night. I'll put those on tonight.

Yes, a false lean can cause one entire bank of the engine to misfire. A misfire by itself causes a false lean. The PCM sees the unburned air from the misfiring cylinder (probably #7) and starts adding fuel to that entire bank, to richen the mixture, fuel that the engine doesn't need. Now you have one cylinder misfiring and the other three running poorly because the mixture is too rich. The other bank will run fine, since each bank of the engine is controlled independantly. The problem could also be a header leak before the O2 sensor, or a faulty sensor. But the high misfire count on #7 seems to point to the "misfire" theory.

Changed the plugs and wires. All of them were black. I guess false lean is much better than real lean, right?

Reset the codes and now the car drives great. Im going to have a local LT1 guy delete some things in the pcm.
