I like it alot. It's helpful if you understand all the functions. Like DTC code.

I have one and I think it is helpful. Its not as good as a laptop and datamaster or other programs that actually log the info. But you can monitor air temps, coolant temps, iac counts, Rpms, you can also see if your o2 sensors are cycleing, plus a few other things. I think I got mine from a company on ebay, Like i said its not the best, but It does help.

Read this and decide if you think the Scanmaster would be useful to you:

http://members.aol.com/InjuneerZZ/ScanMast.htm

Note that it won't read DTC codes for OBD-II LT1's, and you didn't tell us what year your car is.

Why not add a "signature" with basic info about your car?

Thanks everyone for your reply... I have a 94 so some info is restricted... Definatly think it is a good buy compared to laptops etc. If anyone is looking for somewhere to get one Click the link below.

Useful? Hmm... I have three of them so I guess I'd have to say YES! (obviously not in the same car )

They are an excellent tool to monitor your car for everyday driving. My 96SS is programmed to never go into closed loop so it is particularly interesting on that car to see the O2s just sitting there in the high 700s or low 800s most of the time.

For everyday monitoring, nothing beats it IMO. But, if you need to do troubleshooting, they are better than nothing but not as good as a laptop program which allows you to record and graph large amounts of data.

Where mine has been valuable is with nitrous. The knock retard and narrow band O2 data became available and revealed a problem that was and is a pending motor killer. I have a scan tool that can read and show everything the scanmasters do but have to be read real time which isn't too safe while driving. Probably as much as anything, their installation on the dash is a unique and appealing visual accent.

Ive had one in my car for a few years now and its alway running so they are really reliable which is nice! Though I do kinda agree they are more for show than anything unless you have random problems that creep up once in a while. For me its helped me a few times when I didnt have the laptop in my car.. and unless Im doing some datalogs... I never keep the lappy in my car. All in all I give it a 9 outa 10 and people always ask me what those numbers flashing in my dash mean. So it doubles as a conversation piece at times. Good luck finding one... Ill never sell mine.

I bought one of the first ones they made.... maybe in 1997-98? Its still sitting on top of my steering column, even though I only run my stock PCM for the speedo and idle air. But with all the inputs to my aftermarket computer paralled or duplicated into the stock PCM, the ScanMaster still allows me to access things like coolant temp, IAT, IAC, MAP, TPS, etc.

The thing that's really useless at this point is the fact thay I get about 10 different codes for the things my engine no longer needs (MAF, knock sensor, ICM, AIR, EGR, EVAP, etc.), or can't be connected to both computers, like the injectors.

If the scanmaster sees no data then it will turn itself off. Connect the white wire up again and it should stay on.
