my car is a 96z and i have an OBD1 conversion pcm. which scanmaster will work?

There is only one "ScanMaster LT1". It works on both OBD-I and OBD-II PCM's. It just will not read the DTC codes on the OBD-II's.

There is a model for the Buick GN, and for the LS1, but they won't work on the LT1.

If you mean "scanner" rather than the trademarked "ScanMaster", you can choose from a variety of OBD-I models, and also software. Check out the list in this "draft" writeup on scanners for the 4th Gens. A lot of the links are already out of date though.
