what is the difference between a roll bar and a roll cage i want to still be able to use my back seat. also what is a catch can, neutral safety switch, and would i be able to use a 5 point safety harness without a new racing seat. Do any tracks rent out a helmet or would i need to buy one
The NHRA definition of a "roll bar" is a 5-point bar, consisting of a main hoop (2 points), two braces from within 5" of the top of the hoop to the rear body (2 points) and a single front brace/sidebar on the driver's side, passing between the shoulder and the elbow (1 point). The hoop must have a permanent crossbar (pin-ins not allowed). Sidebar can be swing out.
"Roll cage" adds diagonal braces to the bottom of the hoop, a secodn side brace on the passenger side, a halo extending forward to the windshield, two braces to the front of the halo, and a bottom bar on each side connecting the hoop floor mouting points to the front point where the side braces and halo supports connect to the floor.
Although the NHRA rulebook shows "Y" for roll cage in the 10.99-10.00 box, I was always under the impression that stock firewall cars did not require a "certified" roll cage until 9.99.
"Catch can" is a coolant overflow recovery can. Your stock one will suffice.
"Neutral safety switch" prevents the car from starting in gear. Your stock one will suffice.
The Pontiac seat work fine with a 5-point harness, because the shoulder straps will fit between the seat and the headrest. On the Camaros, I've seen seats with holes through the back and modified upholstery to accomodate the shoulder straps.
A couple other things they will look at at many tracks:
-wheel studs must engage lugnuts at least one diameter into the hex portion of the threads.
-battery must be securely fastened down with a bracket... cords not acceptable.
-battery relocated to rear hatch area (inside car) requires a sealed and vented containment box, j-hooks welded to subframe, and a master cutoff switch.
-a nitrous bottle in the passenger compartment (includes hatch area of an F-Body) requires a vent tube on the pressure relief system, venting nitrous outside the body.

that is correct, cars with stock firewall, and body and floor can use a roll bar until 9.99

to run nines, you must have a cutoff no matter where the battery is

Also as of mid season last year Snell 85 helmets are no longer legal. You need Snell2000 now.

Just some notes here......you only need a driveshaft safety loop in a 13.99 or faster car IF its a manual trans. In an Auto you can run 12.99 before you need a loop.

13.99 or faster if the car is equipped with slicks. 12.99 and faster for cars with street tires.
Sure you can still use the backseat with a rollbar, however its not gonna be very useful imo.

BTW do they consider drag radials slicks?? I'm thinking they don't.
