Question Is it safe to drive with a Code 16?

My SES light just came on. I scanned it with AutoXray and it said I have a code 16, Low res pulse circuit failure. Car seems to run fine, my question is, is it safe to drive around? I've checked all the connections, pulled the PCM fuse to clear the code. But after I start is back up, within 10seconds the SES light is back on. Any suggestions, or should I just buy a new opti? Sure...you can drive around on it, but you might come down with a case of chronic spontaneous optispark sudden death syndrome. Either way, you're going to need a new one.

Ya that's what it sounds like i'm going to have to do, buy another opti. I just spoke with Fred ( Injuneer ), he also said it's probably the opti going out. Man, that opti only had a life span of 17 months on it. The original was still working at 70,000 miles when it was replaced. Figured while the cam was being replaced, good time to replace the opti. By the way those are some great times on your 95 for having practically everthing stock...12.80's WOW.

Thanks.

Your previous opti only lasted 17 months? Man...

Have you considered LTCC?

Mine lasted 24 months...but that's because it got a nice anti-freeze bath.

I had this code but I reset the comp. and it went away. A few weeks ago I made a post about it and got a few responses to check all connections. Search for code 16 and it should come up.

For the past year and a half i've had sporatic (pardon the spelling) code 16 flashes...

I'd go out to the car, fire it up, it would be hard to start, turn over, about to start, but die... I'd let it sit for a minute, fire it up again, and it'd come to life without problems, but then the opti low res code would flash...

I'd get worried, reset the comp. etc... but i'm still going on the same opti... 136,000 km's (only around 80,000 miles? *shrug*)

I'm just gonna let it die I think... Or at least wait until I pull the motor or do some interal work before I replace it...

And honestly when I do, i'm fairly sure i'm going to go with the Dynaspark one... If not the LS1 coil setup...

As people say, it will die... but when? who knows!! I figured mine only had a few months of life left once the code started coming up, but that was over 18 months ago... Mind you I don't drive the car that much, i've probably only put about 10-15,000 km's on it in that time...

But good luck!
