Question Real Lt1 To Lt4 Conversion - Wtf?

Hey folks,

Just got lucky and am now the proud owner of a complete LT4 out of a wreck '96 Vette GS. It came pretty close to complete, as follows:

Complete Long Block assembled w/oil pan
Stock Heads, complete minus gaskets and roller rockers
Water pump, Timing chain, cover & Opti
LT4 balancer/damper

My questions are numerous, but before I make a very costly mistake, as I'm gonna begin this transformation in a '95Z28/M6 this week, please correct me or add to if I need any more than the following - intentions are to keep it stock, except I'm adding an LT4 Hotcam:

LT4 Pushrods
LT4 Starter (need part number)
Replace LT4 Valve Springs, locks & retainers & Crane Gold RR's
LT4 Valve Covers?
Oil Pan w/a larger stef's pan/pickup & tray
LT4 Intake
30lb Injectors (recommended brand/flow)
Aeromotive AFPR
PCM For Less Tuning
Holley 58mm Throttle Body
ATI Superdamper
LT4 Head/Intake/Pan Gaskets

And that's about all I could think of.

I know for some this may be a basic question, but unlike an LT4 top half swap w/a stock block, I don't wanna ruin a perfectly good 20,000 mile engine. Any and all help appreciated.

BTW: didn't find this under search here, alot of other stuff, but not this...

The reason you didn't find this on a "search" here on Advanced Tech, is because this subject belongs on LT1 Tech.

Moving it there.......

Just want to say one thing. If it is a complete LT4.The heads should already have the LT4 springs, and crane rockers. Also stock came with a 52mm TB and 28lb injectors. You didnt get those?I would call Jason Cromer about the starter, and a lot of the other parts you need.

You did read my post, right, not being smart or anything, but if this had the intake, fuel rail and injectors, tb and starter, I wouldn't be asking about anything but an oil pan. I'm skeptical on what is going to be required since there are the above components removed, and I don't want to fire up this engine in my car and tear anything up. I listed what I think will be needed, and am simply asking if anyone knows of other parts I may need or SHOULD get to make this swap any easier.

Thanks

If you are going to leave the LT-4 stock cam or install a hotcam you will need the LT-4 springs / retainers. (I have a un-used hotcam and springs/retainers set to sell if you are interested.)
I'm pretty sure the Lt-4 came with a slightly larger fuel rail but tons of people run the LT-1 stock 94+ fuel rail without problems.
The starter and oil pan may not need to be replaced but it certainly wouldn't hurt. Crane narrow body gold 1.6rr's are the same as the GMPP 1.6. you do not NEED lt4 valvecovers. the stock ones would work fine, but if you want to do the complete conversion you should get them. you will definitely need the lt-4 intake. The ati superdamper would be a nice upgrade and make life easy on your rotating assembly. ( If you decide to sell you LT-4 damper with 20k on it e-mail me, I may buy or trade for it from you). I used SVO 30 injectors off of a mustang, The bosch style fuel injectors are the best IMO. And cheaper too. (e-bay 130$)
I dont know of the pusrods were different, i just went with comp cam cromoly pushrods. The AFPR isn't neccessary if you do PCM tuning, which you will need to do anyway.
Dont forget to port your intake to match the throttle body.

Thanks

Thanks for your help guys, I appreciate it.

I may take ya up on the hotcam kit, etc. I really want it to be unused, otherwise I'll just order the kit. I'll be in touch, still going through the block/heads.

LT4 Damper

Sure, I don't see why not.

Do you need the whole hub, or just the damper? Just give me a couple days to sort of go thru a couple things, the engine's up at the shop on the Navy base, figure I wanna rotate everything and double-check numbers, etc, and I'll email ya back. Just tell me what you think's fair and we'll deal.

LT4 Starter 10455709

Also, if it's a true LT4 motor, the rocker studs are 10 mm 'shouldered' studs, and you may have to either change to reg LT1 studs, or be sure that you get the correct lock nuts for the RR's..

as mentioned above i would switch to regular LT1 rocker studs.
and you might as well just buy the whole hotcam kit from jason cromer since you need the rockers. i think he sells it for like $497 shipped or so.
