SA? NSA? Help.
Hey,
I was doing a little searching on some 1.6RRs, which I plan on picking up in the next couple weeks or so. I can't quite decide on self-aligning or non-self-aligning. Searching has brought up equal voting for both, and I'm kinda torn. I *DO* plan on a new cam in the spring, that's definite. So if I was gonna redo the rest of the bulk of the valvetrain, I wanna do it once, not have to buy more stuff down the road because what I have is inadequate. Basically just wondering what you all would suggest (either SA or NSA and just why, that's all), and thanks for the input.

Re: SA? NSA? Help.
It all works but here was my thought. I went with the Non SA R/R's (Comp pro mags) 7/16 studs and guide plates figuring I would never need to do another upgrade The hardened push rods where the diference in price between SA and Non-SA w/guideplates.

You might want to check out my thread here:

I was in the same situation as you, and decided to do it right the first time and not worry about having to upgrade later.
Everything you need is pictured, except you probably don't need the pushrod length checker.
NSA are supposedly quieter, although I've never heard SA roller rockers. My NSA RR's sound great. Hardly notice any difference vs. stock. Maybe a little louder, but I don't think anyone would even think to mention it if I popped the hood. It sounds normal.
I bought LT4 springs for safety sake, and they are cheap, so if you are putting in RR's, at least get LT4 springs, even if you have to get different springs when you do a cam.

Well, I don't know what cam you'll decide to run but...if you plan on spinning your motor in the upper RPM range I'd go with the NSA because they should help to keep valve float to a minimum. Just my .02 have fun and good luck!

Awesome, thanks for the input guys.
Stereo, appreciate the thread, and nice pics. I am stunned with how cheap it ended up costing you. My biggest concern is making all the little adjustments and not screwing it up, but it seems to me that it's not all that bad if you just take your time and are careful. Thanks again.

Yes, it's not bad at all. All the talk about getting the preload correct, finding zero lash... was no problem. You can handle it easy. Really. It's just more time consuming than anything.
I did it without any help, but an extra set of hands would have been nice when installing the springs. Getting the locks in wasn't the easiest by myself, but even that wasn't that bad.
