?'s on testing TPS and coolant temp sensor w/a multimeter
When your testing the throttle position sensor, the key needs to be in the on position right?, and do I test it with the harness connected to it, if so how do I do it that way, or do I probe the harness, or sensor it self? Thanks

It needs to be hooked up b/c 1. It needs power 2. You're are measuring the voltage it gives when it rotates. So, probe the black wire and the other two. Can't remember which is which but one should read around 5 volts and the other around .63 volts at idle. As you press the throttle, the 5 volts should stay at 5 and the .63 should smoothly, with no gaps or jumps, work it's way up to 4.5-5 volts at WOT.
Coolant sensor... I dunno. I think either it works or it doesn't. Mine is defective. I unhooked it and keep a check on the fluid regularly.

Ok so the key needs to be in the on position, but how do I touch the pins if the harness it connected? Also When I set it on the DCV On my mulitmeter there is a 1000, 200, 20 2000m, and a 200m, which one do I put it on. Thanks for the help so far guys.

I believe 200m should do it. To probe, you'll need sharp leds to start with. I sharpened mine with a dremel. Anyway, you'll need to sortof burrow down into the harness where the wires attach, or either just poke through the rubber coating. Don't jab yourself... no joke

IMO, it's really hard to back-probe the TPS connector because of it's location. If you only had a scanner, that would tell you what the TPS was doing without having to use a meter. I hate poking around on wires and weather tight connectors because it only lessens their integrity.

I tryed back probing and I didnt get any numbers, but I dont think I got a good cotact with one of them, cus of fear of breaking a wire or tearing a seal, i'll try it again in the afternoon, yeah I defineatly geting a scanner some time. Thanks again.
