???'s about LT4 Hot Cam

OK, heres what i need to know, i ran across a cam only LT4 hotcam deal.

Do i need to change lifters, springs, and rocker arms?
What computer tuning is required, the car is at a shop and i cant get to the computer until after i get it home, so i gotta run my stock tune for a little bit.

thanks for the help

it's not necessary to change the lifter because there rollers, but it would be a good idea if you have high mileage on them it's kinda like a insurance so you won't have to do it later...

you will need to change out your stock springs because they will not be able to hold the lift of the new cam and the springs will bind... if you get the HC kit it will come with all new valve train componets (except lifters) and it will come with 1.6:1 rockers

also you will need a computer tune it won't run right and give you the best possible power without it being tuned.. i heard of guys runing there cars a couple of days without the tune so you should be fine to get it home...

Re: ???'s about LT4 Hot Cam

even if i am using stock ratio rocker arms the coils will bind?

the motor is getting rebuilt and the heads are getting done too (not ported, just refreshed with new seals and such) so it'll have new lifters

thanks for the info on the computer though.

edit: its not the kit, its just the cam only that i can get a deal on.

im not sure if using stock rockers will cause the springs to bind but you would see more power gains from using the 1.6:1 rockers... the engine would breathe and dump air out better with the 1.6:1... im sure someone will chime in with the answer to that question for you...

Re: ???'s about LT4 Hot Cam

i just cant afford to do all that right now, if i can get by with 1.5 rockers, i will buy springs and 1.6's when i get the money for it, i just need to know if i can put the cam into a stock engine for a while, while its out of the car and getting rebuilt.

stock springs can handle up to .480 lift the hot cam with 1.5 rockers will give you .492/.492 so you would still be over the .480 it's not as big of chance of binding the springs but there will always be a chance that it can happen... also let the programmer know that your running a hot cam with stock rockers and stock heads so they won't think that it's the kit you have..

Re: ???'s about LT4 Hot Cam

If you cant afford to do all thats necessary at once, my advice would be to just swap the rockers from 1:5 up to a 1:6. I did that with a stock cam and noticed prob 10-15 hp increase easy. Im actually not sure if you can even run the hotcam on the 1:5 rockers, but either way I would do the rockers first if you cant afford to do them both. Also, it would be very benificial to change the lifters while you have the car apart when you do the cam, and you will definitly need to change the valve springs, and although its probably totally unnecessary, i would change the pushrods just in case, get a set of hardend ones for 30 bucks, its worth it, although you wont notice a bit of power obviously.

don't mean to highjack but, would you need to get a higher stall for the Hot Cam conversion...I have heard that the Hot Cam is a mild cam, so would you need a higher stall speed?

Re: ???'s about LT4 Hot Cam

Not likely, the hotcam is not wild enough to require a high stall.

Re: ???'s about LT4 Hot Cam

k, i decided that i am prolly gonna get a set of 1.6 roller rockers and wait on the cam.

a stall gears and DR's is in the future though as well. its already got nitrous on it, but upgraded injectors and fuel pump are gonna happen shortly after the rebuild so that i can run a 125 safely.

thanks for everything!!!!!
