Running stock exhaust on a Stroker/Blown Camaro. Bad Idea?
Running stock exhaust on a Stroker/Blown Camaro. Bad Idea?
I am getting older so a crazy loud rumbling exhaust is not my thing anymore. I orderd a quick time exhaust cut out and was planning on putting the stock cat back system back on my Camaro and just flip the cut out switch when at the track or when driving hard.
My question is.. would running the stock exhaust cause any harm to the car with a supercharged and stroked motor when the cut out is closed? Too much heat maybe or back pressure? Maybe even detonation?
Specs:
95 camaro
396 LT1 9:1 Compression
ATI intercooled supercharger 10psi of boost
Mac Headers and Y pipe
Mac High flow cat
Any one with valuable info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Jason

No, it will not harm your car. It will just be very, VERY restrictive with your set-up when not running through the cutout.
If your looking for something that quiet, but flows a lot better, look into the SLP dual/dual 3" cat-back. Honestly, it is as quiet as stock at idle and cruise while only being a little louder at full throttle. You can find them used for around $200 if you look around. And for good measure, just throw the cutout on to it for when you need every last bit of power at the strip.

Cool, Thanks. The cut out is electronic so when I need to go fast I just flip the switch. I am just tired of the added attention and having a head ache everytome I drive the car.
Thanks
Thanks
I wouldnt think it would cause a problem but if it was me I would check it out with a infared thermometer just to be sure.....
If you want a quiet catback I think B&B tri-flo is probiibly the quietest. If you want i can try to get a sound clip of mine once i get the stroker in....

If he has an electronic cutout, then using the stock system won't be a problem if he opens it up everytime he wants to put the foot to the floor. He'll just lose a TON of power through the factory system though if he doesn't use his cutout.
And guys, absolutely nothing is quieter than the SLP dual/dual cat-back. Even with H/C, headers, & no cats, it only really makes some noise at WOT.
