Running rich????
hey,
I just bought my first camaro about 2 weeks ago 95 z28 vert. It is completely stock and only has 22k miles on it. In the morning when i go to start it it will turn over for about 15+ seconds before the engines starts. It doesn't matter if i pump the gas, don't touch the pedal or anything. However if i turn the ignition on and wait for the fuel pump to finish then turn it over it starts much better. Also, it only gets about 12 mpg doesn't matter if i baby the car, take it on the highway, or street racing. My friend has a 96 z28 and she gets 20 on the highway. A mechanic suggest my O2 sensors but as of right now i have no money and don't want to replace them if they don't need to be. any ideas?????
and if the o2 sensors need to be replaced plz say that its not difficult to get to them looking under the hood of these cars that engine doesn't have much room
finally since i am a computer geek and not and engine head what mod would be the best hp and gas mileage...
thanks
josh

your car might need a good tune up, plugs/wires,o2 sensors, air filter, a good bottle of fuel injector cleaner, always run premium gas, fresh oil/filter, check the pcv, have the computer scanned at autozone for free to see if she's throwing any codes. a good tune should improve your gas mileage, although the miles are low, the car is almost 10 years old.
mods to improve gas mileage:
cold air induction
headers/aftermarket catback
dont take the car over 3500rpm
hope this helps,
Jesse

After owning my 97 for about two years I finally checked the gas mileage, I suspected it was low. Was only 11.16mpg. No lights and no codes.
Did a miner tune-up and had Chevy reflash the computer (only $70.00) just in case. Next tank was up to 13.00mpg, added some injector cleaner and it's looking better for this tank full. I'm guestimating 14 to 14.5, should know tomorrow.
