Running lean
Running lean
I just put in a 383 Stroker stock heads and cam still. The car is running lean though but we tested the fuel pressure and its at 45 pds. Does it need more? I have an AFR i think its adjsutable its the a little iodized red thing on the back of the motor but we cant get it to turn at all darnit! What other ways to increas fuel pressure? Thanks guys
Re: Running lean
Stock tune? You just increase the volume each cylinder displaces - the comptuer needs to be tune for the additional air that is making it into each cylinder (otherwise you will be lean). I don't know how much this will affect it exactly - theoretically once you go into closed loop the O2 sensors should be seeing a lean condition and there should be fuel corrections made by the PCM. We need a little more info i think about what you have done to the car.
Re: Running lean
A more basic question.... how did you determine it is running lean - wide band, plug reading, ??????
Does the fuel system hold the 45psi reading at WOT/max power rpm?
And the obvious questions from the posts above.... what is your setup with regard to injectors and tuning? Hard to see how a 383 with stock heads and cam would exceed the capacity of the stock injectors.

Re: Running lean
th eonly mods are the motor and whats in the sig thas the only thing really significant. The car just feels like its running lean to me, 45 pds isnt enough fuel pressure for the motor is it?
Re: Running lean
How does "running lean" feel?
The stock spec for fuel pressure is 41-47psi with no vacuum compensation. The stock injectors are rated at 43.5psi. If your system holds 45psi all the way to red line, your fuel system is fine.
As far as mods... it gets confusing when you list two different cars... people have no way telling which one you are asking about. Maybe you're putting a 383 in the one that was stripped..... not sure why you want to keep people guessing. I'll stop bugging you. Good luck.

Re: Running lean
If you stilll have stock heads and cam and all you have done is stroked the motor you shouldn't have any problems with the stock fuel system assuming it's working right. I wouldn't be surprised if you are lean - but all you probably need is a tune. Adding 33 cubes to your engine isn't going to be a huge increase in horsepower - especially with stock heads and cam you are probably barely making more power than stock. Most people run the stock fuel system up until around 375-400 HP at the wheels.
