I'm not sure sure on an exact degree that the engine is getting, but
i know that if i let it that it would go well over 260*. As far as the gauges, I'm sure that they work I had them out and made sure of it. I also changed both the coolent temp sensor, and fan switch located on the engine block. I along with that, changed the fan relays.
I think I'm going to try and bleed the hell out of my cooling system, hopefully this works and my car starts running cool... thanks for all the replys

quick question... would air in my heads cause the system to act up...because i bled the system and now my fans arnt kicking on. right now i jumped the relay and have to kick the fans on manually if i want them to kick on. And since I did that, my MIL is on now but it turns off after the relay has been put back in...

Just find out what was causing all my problems... the water pump had a small leak that i wasn't able to detect. However, all of the sudden my car just started spitting out coolent out like crazy...the air in my heads was coming from the leak in my water pump... it would leak very little but somehow was taking in air. Jeeze i have my work cut out for me now...

water pump is done...Still have no heat, and now my fans arnt kicking on... they kick on when i have the car on my scanner (Tech 2) relays are good, the fans also turn on with my A/C. but now with the A/C off and the car running...WTF...someone HELP!

You need to read the temp off the PCM, since it uses a different sensor than the dash gauge.

When i had my car on the Tech 2, the temp was reading well over 200* and no fans were kicking on at all. I never used the temp gauge in the dash for anything i used my scanner to get an exact number.

the same thing happens to my car... it will be running a little over the 1/4 mark cruising on the highway but then as soon as i stop it shoots up to the red line, but then as soon as i start moving it drops down again, i was worried about it at first but there is no problem with the coolant system and 2 fans are coming on and i dont think that there is really any way that it can go from that great of a temp change that quickly... i think i just need a new temp sensor

Guys look into the SLP fan control switch it is worth it. You can crank the fans any time u want and it really helps of u r having overheating problems. Mounted mine right next to the ALDL-not sure if that is right- (plug under the dash) Just my .02 cents
I was already considering getting the after-market fan control, but it would be nice to actually have my fans come on when ther are supposed to, Id like to get that fixed, then I was going to install the fan switch...
but does anyone have any ideas on what to check?

O...and I still have no heat and im 100% positive the heater core is good and almost 100% there is no air in my system... the air blows "warm" only sometimes, like for a second or two the back to cold, bot hot like it should be...help!

The SLP fan switch has 3 positions ,down is hi, up is low, and in the middle just leaves your fans running normal. Your car must be low on antifreeze! You have to check the antifreeze level and make sure there r no leaks.

By the way your car will always run hot at an idle. The RPM's r low which means the water pump is not turning very fast. It will almost always jump to 200-220 even after a short run and then ideling.
Antifreeze is full, no air in my system. As far as my fans go, you said that its normal for a car to run hotter because the water pump isnt turning as fast. Well i don't know of any camaro that runs 260* at idle. My fans never kick on at all unless i have my A/C on. and there are no leaks anywhere and i can't smell any coolent anywhere. This got me stumpped

Are you sure that you are allowing yourself enough time for the stat to open? I would check your radiator cap, check for small cracks on the sides of your radiator and re-tighten all your hose clamps if you have the adjustable clamps.
When my car was slightly overheating I checked absolutely everything I could think of...I found a pinhole crack that was on the side of the radiator. I would have totally misssed it if it wasn't for me looking at ever square inch of the thing slowly. If your car shoots to 260 and pegs that at idle, something is very wrong. I would look at other possibilities other than your cooling system that may make your car overheat.
