Angry Running HOTTT!!! HELP!!

1996 Z28 LT1--

I still have no idea what could be making my car over heat the way it does... its fine as long as im driving it, but in slow traffic my temp gauge goes up. I don't want anything bad to happen to my heads (warping) because I heard that these heads don't hold up well under heat, so when ever I think its getting too hot I turn the car off and wait until it cools. I have had the problem ever since I had the cooling system "power flushed" by a lube stop... I first noticed that I had no heat and took it to the dealership. The mechanic told me that all it was, was air in my heads. The problem was fixed for about 2 weeks, then no heat again, now I'm over heating... HELP!

Im not sure when I'll be able to read and responces on this page, but If anyone has any ideas please e-mail me at Baddboy1705@aol.com Thanks guys...

Did you verify that the fans are coming on?

Re: Running HOTTT!!! HELP!!

are you sure both fans are coming on...on my car when thhe fans kick on i can feel the air under my engine. You should verify that you can't just HEAR them but can actually feel air being moved. Have you checked your radiator to make sure there is nothing blocking it? If it only occurs while you are sitting still it's most likely the fans.

And the most important question here is how hot exactly is the car getting? During summer time in city traffic my LT-1s in stock form both would hit 220 easily. If you are concerned about this then a tune to kick the fans on earlier will help.

EDIT: I'm a bad poster, i didn't read the veyr last part about the "power flush". Good chance there is still air in your system. do a search in the forum on "bleeding coolant system" and you'll find lots of posts on how to do that PROPERLY.

Re: Running HOTTT!!! HELP!!

ok thanks fellas, but about that bleeding comment... i know where the bleeders are, and I've had the dealer bleed it out before, but i reallt have no clue how to use them... is there a right and wrong way? which is the best way? ive heard all kinds of things such as jacking the car up in the front to take the air to the top. If this is true, when the cooling system is pressurized no air would come to the top anyway...right?

Re: Running HOTTT!!! HELP!!

when its hot, leave the car running, and open the bleeder screws. if coolant spits out, then there is air. if it just trickles out, then its ok. do the one on the top return hose, and also put something over the opti so when you open the one above the thermostat housing, it dont spill all over the opti.

Question Re: Running HOTTT!!! HELP!!

ok, but when its hot its going to spit out reguardless isnt it? because of the system being pressurized? I already did that, and it keeps shooting out forever your saying leave it going untill it stops shooting out? Wont that just release the pressure built up in the cooling system?
thanks

Re: Running HOTTT!!! HELP!!

Have you checked to make sure guages are accurate? In a pinch, when sitting in traffic and not using a/c, turn the a/c on for a second. This will cause the second fan to come on and should drop the temp down.

no, if its got air in the system, it will spray out. if it has no air pockets in it, it will just leak out the screwhole.
if it sprays out, you will hear it as well as see it.
