Running a 383 untuned

How long could i run my new 383 without havin the computer tuned? putting the motor in this weekend and havnt sent off for a tuned computer yet. will this be a problem?

I would not advise doing that. You really need a tune before you run that. You could potententialy mess your cylinders up pretty bad. I forget what it is called but I think it was something like cylinder wash. It has to do with running to rich and it causes alot of wear on your cylinders.

Its kind of hard to say since you don't have the other mods to the motor mentioned, but I would at least get a mail-order tune before driving it.

You at the very least need to update your tune to include the new cylinder sizes and new injector sizes. Plus theres the whole issue of VE mapping.

no idea what your talking about.

Running rich would cause a significant and quick build up of carbon, but never heard of any problems with the walls.

I don't think you would cause any substantial damage, but the car would idle and run like crap. You would probably get a lot of retard, bad fuel management, etc.

As others have said, it also depends on the other mods you have done.

If you run way too rich you can actually wash down the cylinder walls.

Ditto..... washes the oil right off the walls, and ruins the rings. Then there's the diluted oil in the crankcase, not doing a very good job of lubricating the engine.
