RR's

im just looking for an easy bolt on right now.
would 1.6 RR's be a good next mod with the stock cam?
should i keep the stock springs or replace them as well??
what kinda gains should i see??

i did a search 1st but everything is just people having problems with RR's or deciding what kind to buy

I went with comp cams 1.6rr. Very worthwhile to me. The car pulls a lot harder on the top end. Most people see around 10 hp in stock form but mild modded people have seen 15-20. I don't know what I picked, haven't bee to dyno Also they are pretty easy to install.

My $.02

EDIT: I used the stock springs...for now, until cc306 time

No lose on the boottem end. It pulled better through the whole rpm range but was most noticalbe on the top end. the reson you lost bottem end when you took the cat off was that these cars are designed to run with a cetrin amount of backpressure, if the cat bhoters you just get a high flow cat.

Like I said, some people do run 1.6rr with stock springs, won't hurt. It will be close to coil bind, but neither I or any of my friends have had that problem. I am just going to change my springs when I do the cc306, I am not comftable changing springs with the heads on the engine, might drop a valve (been there down that ).

As for the cat, it is lound isn't it , My friend took his off his and it was lound as hell.

You can reuse the stock springs temporarily but there's very little room for error when setting the lash. 1/4 turn past zero lash will be about all you can get, some repair manuals suggest 1/2 to 3/4 past zero lash with stock 1.5 RA's. If you go more than a quarter turn you run the risk of coilbind.
