RPM's up at idol speed after stall, normal?
I got my TCI 2800 stall in the car Thurday along with a rebuild tranny. Before with the 373's, I was turning about 2600 rpms at 70 mph. Now after the stall I'm turning almost 2800, is this normal? I forget if its lockup/or non lock up. Its that allows for easy highway use if that explains it.
It is normal for a high stall speed converter to give you a higher rpm at any speed, the "high stall" means that the converter is designed to allow for a greater amount of slippage between the engine and transmission. This is what allows your engine to reach a higher rpm (to take advantage of cams & sticky tires) from a dead stop before transmitting power to the transmission to move your car (or a higer rpm before you trany tries to "stall" your engine if you had your brakes applied)
If you have a lockup converter, it will only lock up in overdrive. In overdrive with the converter locked up your rpm shold be the same as before, remember that the converter will come out of lockup if you hit the brakes or accelerate (I think)
