Post Proportioning valve bypass, to stalling converter at the track.

Hello,

I am curious about bypassing the proportioning valve to the rear brakes with a normally closed solenoid valve. This will give me full rear brake pressure allowing me to stall up the converter, when I activate the solenoid with a momentary switch. Currently I can stall to about 2100 RPM in a 97 Camaro with a 2800 converter.

Anyone done this mod? If so where can I get the parts? I can deal with the wiring and the brake lines, but where can I find the solenoid valve that will work with an automotive brake system and work with 12 volts? Any ideas or information would be appreciated!

Courtney

Try these guys:

www.ronscustomauto.com

they did an article in GMHTP and I talked to them at length. I am going to try my TC out first before doing this mod but it sounds alot better than a Tbrake, this is a buick turbo trick that has been out for a while.

let me know if it works.

Biggest problem would be the ABS system. But I guess if you dump it(the ABS) you should be fine

Vehicle brakes will not hold a car to the converter's full stall. They just can't hold back the torque put against them. The only way you can go to full stall is with a transbrake. By locking 2 gears at once there's no way for power to go out of the tranny.

Easy mod is to do away with the prop valve entirely and go with largest dia piston manual m/c you can find to fit, usually s10, and if rear drums get the larger wheel cyl's.
This set up holds great on line and you can usually stage at higher rpm's. bBut like what was just said, staging rpm's and stall speed will never equal on a footbrake car.

Yes,

That is the same article I saw. I think it would be a good mod. I will try it. Thanks for the reply.

I don't think it will bother the ABS. ABS does not monitor fluid pressure to the rear brakes. I works off the front and rear wheel sensors. I am not positive about that but will do the research to find out.
