Rough idle, 3 codes, ignition problems...

Caught in a storm lastnight, was forced to go through some pretty deep water. Car was idleing rough lastnight, seemed to be running very rich. Got up this am took it for a rip, acting the same. Seemed to be running fine at WOT, but would miss sometimes at around 2000-3000rpm, and idle poorly.

Was letting it idle in the garage while i thought about the possible problems it could be. It then started to idle real high like 1500-2000rpm, then drop suddenly like it was going to stall, then shoot up again. It did this for a bit then eventually stalled.

It threw 3 codes: P1371, P1351, P1361.

They all point to an ignition problem. I will do the usual ie. check opti and icm connection for corrosion/moisture...etc

If it is the opti this will be the 4th time ive removed/replaced it this year due to various reasons.

Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

I can understand the 1361 and the 1371 but not the 1351. For the IC Circuit to be low and then high, is kind of baffleing.

I'm curious why you are having so many opti problems. What were some reasons or causes for replacing them in the past?

Are you sure you have the vent lines and restrictor connected correctly?

Those opti units can be very sensitive to water. If it got splashed really good then there is a good chance you could have damaged it.

P1371 is for loss of low res pulse pattern from the Opti. If that's an active code, the engine won't run. The fact that its running (even if its running poorly) tells you the low res pulse is now present, and the code was stored when you hit the water. You need to check the Opti harness connectors (one on the Opti, the other on the passenger side of the intake manifold) and make sure they are clean, dry and not corroded. The connector on the Opti is one of the main paths for water to enter the Opti.

Good chance you soaked the Opti and probably the entire front of the engine, shorting out the IC Module and causing it to fail temporarily, setting the codes. Agani, you need to make sure the connections are all dry and clean.

Just mistakes on my part. Bought a used one that wasn't good. Installed one wrong, thought it was seated flush againts the the mounting points, turned out it wasn't.

When i get a chance this week i will go through all the ignition harness connections and check for debris and moisture, then provide an update. Hopefully it just didn't have enough time to fully dry out by the morning.

Re: Rough idle, 3 codes, ignition problems...

Went to start it today. All connections looked to be clean and dry. Cleared the codes with a scanner. Went to turn the car on after clearing codes and the fan came on, car was cold and hadn't been run since sunday. To make it clear, all i did was push in the clutch to crank it over, and before i did the fans came on, car hadn't been started yet. Never had that happen before.

I started it and it ran for a couple seconds, then stalled. It threw code P0601. I've had the car stall on me before and throw this code while the car was running well. The ecm is tuned by madz28. Could it be possible it got damaged in shipping or something along those lines?

I cleared the code, and restarted it, it ran just as it did in my first post. Rough idle, strong smell of fuel, what seems to me to be a misfire. It didn't stall at all, and never threw any codes.

I seems to me i have 2 seperate issues here. One with the pcm and the P0601 code. And one i developed after going through all the water, throwing the ignition codes (dead opti).

Anyone think there is something else i'm overlooking? Or maybe think something different?

Any help would be appreciated.

A code 601 is major. Take your pcm to a local Auto Value retailer to have it reflashed. If there is a problem with the pcm they can tell you. Then start working on the next problem, but deal with the major one first.

Well don't think i have any places in my area that can reflash the pcm. I'll have to email madz28 about this again...
