roller cam

I have heared that a small block roller cam will work in a LT1. I was wanting to know can I use a small block roller cam in my car or what?

Also a friend has a 12 second wagon with a roller cam small block that cam is .555 lift 240 duration but a 106 lobe seperation. Is this cam streetable with 106 seperation?

Re: roller cam

The nose of the cam is different for an LT1. In theory, if you are a skilled machinist you could modify the nose of the gen I cam but I can't say I know of anyone who has bothered.

The cam would not meet my definition of streetable, but YMMV.

Re: roller cam

I understand but I drive on a stage five clutch and had headers and a off road y with a loudmouth and took that off for something louder.

why is the nose of the cam cut down?

Re: roller cam

If the cam was installed in an 87 up Factory equipped roller cam motor, then as said before it will have a stepped nose to clear the cam retainer plate. These will work in LT1 with modification. On 94 and 94s they are a bolt in with the stock opti and timing set, on a 95 to 97 LT1 you will have to use a longer dowel pin and have a proper size hole drilled in the center of the nose to the correct depth to fit the opti spark in. The older cams (pre 87 non roller blocks)bolt pattern for the timing gear is also wider.

Re: roller cam

Honestly, there's no reason why you can't contact a vendor like Cam Motion that will build you a custom LT1 cam for around $350.

106 Lobe Seperation on a street car is just a LITTLE insane, but if you want it for the chop, then go for it.

BTW, your 150 shot isn't going to work very well with a huge overlap cam on a street motor. You'll be shooting nitrous out of the exhaust pipes.

Re: roller cam

The car has been a best of 11.15 and a best mph of 126.2 W/3650 pounds with me in it. It felt slow and boring. I dont want to put another dime into the pig slow car. So I will sell one of the 3 sets of wheels I have to buy a cam. I heard this 106 lobe sep and it is a drag car sounding bad *** note. I have been told the clutch and exhaust on my car is unstreetable but I find it okay. I will prob try 110 or something My thing is the car at bottom 11's doesnt do it for me and mid 10's may be quick for a few passes for a while and feel like it does now. So I want to make the car sound bad instead and the hot cam ,306 and 847 sound great but I want to be more radical. My concern about streetablity is the tune. I dont want to have to drive around with edit in the trunk or loading up at Ideal and give up A/C. I also have a pair of 4.30's to put in the rear if need be.

I will take any advice even if it is negitive.
