There are just not many piston choices in that price range. Maybe spend a lil more and get an SRP/Mahle . . . . . ?

The TRW/Speedpro pistons are ok for a gen I motor done on the cheap where forged is a concern. But the later model motors all use thinner ring packs and lighter pistons, where by using those heavier slugs you are doing more harm than good. Pony up the extra $100 and get a set of Mahle or Wiseco pistons.

Good advise higher static compression help tame big cams!

I'm so ignorant about this subject. I don't know what a good ring pack is or what piston goes with what rod size or floating or pressed fit. If someone can link me to exactly what I should get from summit like llyod did. I was about to order those TRW pistons but I don't mind spending a little more for something better if I need to. I was going to use the stock crank and stock rods. I'm looking for forged pistons (.030 over) in I'm guessing SRP, Mahle or Wiseco?

What do you guys think about the TRW-LW-2256F30 pistons? They are suppose to be lighter and they have:

Bore (in): 4.030 in.
Bore (mm): 102.362mm
Piston Style: Flat top, with four valve reliefs
Piston Material: Forged aluminum
Compression Distance (in): 1.563 in.
Piston Head Volume (cc): +6.10cc
Wrist Pin Style: Press fit or floating
Pin Diameter (in): 0.927 in.
Piston Ring Thickness: 1/16 in. x 1/16 in. x 3/16 in.
Quantity: Sold individually.
Notes: Lightweight. Approximate compression ratios: 10.40:1 with 58cc, 9.72:1 with 64cc, 9.32:1 with 68cc, 8.96:1 with 72cc, and 8.62:1 with 76cc head.

Still heavier than stock pistons by 30g

Remember you will need to have the rotating assy balanced with any of these pistons.

what about the rings? Is 1/16 in. x 1/16 in. x 3/16 in. better than 5/64 in. x 5/64 in. x 3/16 in.?

What kind of a difference will 30g make?

Also, ruff estimate how much would the balancing be?

Thanks!

Get the Mahle powerpack pistons and be done with it. They are much higher quality than the TRW's as well.

I only used H-beams because I found a package deal. I do wish that I had waited to check my deck height before getting head gaskets. I thought I'd have a zero deck, but the pistons ended up .010" in the hole which made my quench .049".

I will second the Mahle power pack, and Scat I Beam rods, here is the part numbers from Summit, this setup is for the 6 inch rods, you get Mahle Forged Pistons, Rings, Wristpins, Forged I Beam rods with 12PT ARP Rod Bolts, cost is about 850.00.

Mahle Power Pack SBC250030F05
Scat 2ICR-6000-7/16
