What could it be lifters? Could it cause the car to run like crap?

And to be more specific, yes it will cause your motor to run like crap if done improperly. Too loose will cause valve chatter that could trigger your knock sensor, pulling timing. Too tight could cause the valves to not close all the way, loosing compression. Shoebox's website might shine some light on your problem.

 

i adj. them with the motor running they stop clicking for a min or 2 and then go right back to clicking and i can shake them by hand

 

Do they lock after adjustment? How are you locking them?

 

My guess is that the stock lock nuts have gone south on you. A set of positive locks and a good adjustment should set you straight....

 

Are you having this problem with all the rocker arms?
