rocker arms

Can I just have some clarification in regards to non self-aligning rocker arms and self aligning rocker arms. My application is in regards to a 93 LT1 with AFR heads. I am getting new full roller rocker arms but just need to clarify what direction I need to go in.

Thanks!

NSA's use pushrod guideplates for alignment. More stable for more frequent high RPM or racing use.

SA's use little tabs on the sides of the end of the rocker that contacts the valve stem.

If the heads have guide plates, you must use hardened pushrods and NSA rockers. This is preferable to SA rockers for hi-po use anyway.

I've used Crane Gold SA rockers with AFR 190 heads. I went to Comp ProMag's with 7/16 studs. I had to mod my pushrod plates, but, the Comp RR's w/ 7/16" studs are alot more rigid and true running than SA rockers (my opinion) (Isky makes an adjustable PR plate guide). (App... 97ss 383ci D1 AFR 190 heads MM6). HTH B.

And guide plates, right? You need those or else the rocker will slip off the valve head. From all I've read the GM flat ones are the way to go.

Scorpions, Crane Golds, Comp Mags. Can you handle 1.7s? Then go with Scorpions otherwise their 1.6 are cheap and Crane Golds are good and quiet as well.

Here is a source for the Scorpions: http://www.flatlanderracing.com
