Reusing arp head bolts.
Reusing arp head bolts.
Is this a good idea or not? Im getting some for free from a friend that im buying a heads/cam kit off of. Should i just spend the extra dough for added insurance or would it be a waste.
Re: Reusing arp head bolts.
I've reused mine at least 5 times. In fact I'm bolting down a new set of heads as we type. Make that 6 times. Never had a problem. I would just clean them up with a wire wheel and look for defects. Also, ask your friend what he TQed the bolts to. As long as he didn't go overboard, I would use them.
Re: Reusing arp head bolts.
James,
i only used the head bolts once
torqued them too a max of 70-75lbft (cant remember exactly off hand)
went in 3 steps all around using factory sequence i think it was 30-50-70
like quikshot said, just hit'em with a wire wheel too clean up and be good too go

i have always heard they were designed to be reuseable, i think i read that from an arp ad
Re: Reusing arp head bolts.
Thanks guys. The only reason that i had any doubts is cause i have a friend that has built nascar motors and he said he wouldn't reuse em, but then again the dont reuse anything.
