Re: Reset PCM for 93 octane?

wow, I actually found something that shoebox didnt know. lol This is an exciting day. Ive never heard my engine knock when running regular and gasing it, but I guess it could be retarding. How long does the computer have to be disconnected for it to reset again? I am going to put some 93 in, and reset the pcm and see what it does for me as far as perfomance.

Its just kinda hard to afford premium these days! I want to put it in as much as anyone, but when I bought the car I didnt expect gas prices to be so damn high now!

I would expect a guy that programs car computers for a living to know more than I do about them.

Is this in any way related to "abuse mode" as LT1 Edit refers to it? They would both seem to do the same thing, albiet from perhaps slightly different causes.

Is it just me or does it seem like these computers are actually pretty "smart" in a sence that they learn all this stuff. Anything else neat these computers do?

you'd laugh at how simple it was if you saw it all laid out. now figuring out which cells depend on which cells is a bit confusing...

abuse mode is usually talking about things like sitting in neutral and reving it pointlessly.. like alot of impala's will have a 4500 rpm abuse limitor in nuetral

You guys never answered me, how long does the pcm have to be disconnected for for it to reset? Is it instantanous? I have a 93, duno if it matters.

Thanks alvin. I will be needing a tune from you soon.

Also - Prolly a Q you hear all the time. What kind of gains could I get from a tune from you w/ my mods?

yep, I usually pull the fuse out and just let it sit for a bit...

Typically at least 14rwhp. sometimes more... Theres a big improvement in driveablity to be had in the 93's even when they are competely stock. alot of people have wrote testimonials about it..

Really when you think about it PREMIUM is getting cheaper and cheaper all the time.

Back a few years ago when gas was $1.00/gal and premium was $1.20/gal.
Premium was 20% higher than regular. Now with gas around $2.80/gal and premium at $3.00/gal Premium is now only 8% higher than regular.

So when gas is around $10.00/gal in 2 years... What another 20 cents.
