Reprogramming the computer
Hi. I'm swapping the lt1 and 4l60e from a 94 z28 into a 68 chevy c10 pickup. The truck weighs about 4200lbs and has a 3.73 rear end. Is reprogramming the computer necessary? I've heard of lt1 edit and cats. Can I set the motor up with one of those? I have a laptop, and I'm pretty good with a computer. What are the chances the chip will get fried? Thanks.

You can get the PCm programmed from www.pcmforless.com for CHEAP. I had my car street tuned by Bryan at PCMFORLESS and it turned out great. He also does Mail Order Tuning.
Hope that helps,

You will at least have to change for the gear ratio. Tunercat or LT1_edit is a good way to go when you want to do stuff yourself. If not, you can still use your laptop and get a mail order tune that you can load yourself. http://madz28.com does this, too.

Just as luck would have it, my laptop doesn't have a serial port.. What kind of crap is that??? Anyway, Can I get a parallel or usb cable to do the job? What will the truck run like if I don't set the ecm up for 3.73? I'll be running it without a speedo for a while as it is. Will it affect the shift points since I have the 4l60e? Thanks!
