Replacing Water Pump

I was wondering, can the water pump be replaced without getting under the car? I'm replacing the water pump with a regular (non-electric) one and wasn't sure if I have to get under the car or not. If I have to have it up in the air, I might just take it somewhere to be done.

Thanks!
Jeremy

Yeah it can be done without raising the car. May need to jack it up to get some hose clamps or a bolt. But that is not required. It is a fairly easy job that you can do in your garage with limited tools!! Good Luck!

You're going to need to drain the block if you don't want coolant pouring all over the opti. Also you'll probably need to pull the fans off and the harness and 2 bolts are accessed under the car.

It's much easier if you can get the car up a little. A pair of Rhino Ramps will do.

It's MUCH easier if you can jack up the car and pull the fans off the radiator. Makes a world of difference. Block doesn't need to be drained either. All I've ever done is break the block to W/P seal and let the coolant drain into a large pan. The opti is on a raised portion of the block so as long as the flow of coolant can be controled into the pan then the opti will not get a drop on it.

You'd want the car to be up a bit, on jacks or ramps, but there's no need for a lift to get the water pump installed. It's a good DIY project, once you see what needs to be done.
