Question Pete Jackson gear drive?

Hey, I'm about to replace my opti and timing set anyway and at first had considered doing the 95+ opti conversion with the extreme duty timing set.

Someone on here says they have a Pete Jackson gear drive and electric waterpump for sale (have to use the CSI pump to use the Pete Jackson).

Anyway, I know I love the way the P.J. gear drives sound ....and was wondering if they are as good as the extreme duty timing set.

PS: My old opti is fine, but I'm in the middle of a rebuild and figured I should upgrade to the 95+ while at it since it would be necessary to do the extreme duty set which I need since I'll be reving over 6K at times. However, if I could keep the old opti and go with the Pete Jackson set and waterpump it would save a ton of money.

I have always heard that a gear drive will make the knock sensor go crazy. Most magazines list them as "not for vehicles with knock sensors". There may be other problems as well. I haven't tried it so I don't know for sure.

You might want to check out "DaveW 396ci"s website. He installed the Pete Jackson unit, including a bit of grinding to the stock timing cover. He ran it for a while an yanked it out. Plays havoc with the knock sensor.

Dave Wendland

I think if you look under 1999 he installed it, and 2000 he removed it. You might have to look through the site for pictures of the hacked up timing cover.

Thanks for the replies. In a way I don't want to use an electric waterpump because they are no good for sustained high rpm driving, which is what I like to do sometimes on curvy, steep mountain roads. They are great for cruising and drag racing but for longer durations of higher rpm I don't think they're a good idea since flow is not proportional to rpm.

Just going to go to Dal or Jason and get the new parts I need ......
