Replacing the passenger side exhaust gasket...

I wish I could say I was the one who put my long tubes on, but sadly that is just not the case. I was just curious what the best approach to accomplishing this task would be. The passenger side is a little unsettling to look at, what with all the sh*t in the way. Does anyone have a step by step process that I could go by to replace the header gasket. The leak is really starting to get annoying. Thanks in advance.

just take your time and pay attention to where everything goes you will be fine. also i remember you will need to remove the alternator to get at the headder bolts at the very front of the engine. you should be able to replace the gasket withut compleetly removing the headder just get all the bolts out and loosen it up at the y-pipe. you should be able to lay it back and swap out the gasket.

what he said, and make sure to stay on top of tightening very frequently while the gasket compresses (over the first few weeks) if you want your gasket last.

If you dont retighten the bolts you will be doing the project over again.

its just so crazy. When I had them installed, the guy put them on and although I never re-tightened them, I didnt get a blown gasket till about a year ago. And I've had these headers for atleast 6 years now.

It is part luck, part gasket. Some gaskets require more compression than others. You can take the chance, but it is going to suck when you have to dig back in to replace something that could have been avoided.

would you reccomend a soft metal gasket or the standard "mr. gasket" type?

I used mr gasket, and have used soft metal. I never got the metal ones to seal really good, and the mr. gaskets take a while to compress down to their final size. I forget the felpro part #, but they have a gasket that works also.
