Replacing oil pump with motor in car?

I want to up the pressure since it appears I just have the stock 40psi spring in the pump right now and am aiming for 60 psi for after my head install. I know you can order the white spring for a couple of bucks but dont you have to take out the pump in order to change the spring anyway? If so then I may was well just replace the pump on my 98k motor right? Im not going with anything fancy here.. just stock pump with HP spring. How difficult is it to pull the pump out with the motor in place? I realize you have to drop the pan and thats no big deal. Thanks

I dont think it would be hard at all as far as dropping the pump out, I believe it is just one bolt holding it in. But when u put the new pump in u need to make sure u get the split part on top of the oil pump drive shaft back up into the gear just perfect of else the shaft wont spin and u will have zero pressure. Also, yes u would have to take the pan out which my mean u have to raise the motor to get it out.

Since you have an M6, you will have to drop the front suspension a little in order to get the pan off.

Yeah, jack up the motor, and you only need to drop the k member the length of the 6 bolts that hold it on, an inch or a little more maybe. And also I believe there are 2 bolts that hold the pump on.

One suggestion, when I did mine, I broke the damn plastic retainer that holds the 6" shaft on. Get a new one before you even start. They get brittle as hell with age.

So you have to jack up the motor while lowering the K-member? What tools did you use to accomplish this?

I just supported the car an jackstands, unbolted the motor mounts, lifted the motor with a block of wood and a floor jack, and than lowered the k-member just about an inch. Just stay calm and work at it, it takes some twisting and turning but the pan will come out. Oh yeah, you must get the pick-up tube welded on to the pump, or it will fall of and you'll be doing the whole thing over again.
