Replaced the Rad Cap.

I don't think The previous owner ever replaced the cap on the Rad before. I've been trying to diagnose why my low coolant light comes on and I was thinking it has something to do with the cap.
Well, just picked up a new cap today.. the old one was definatly worn out, I could push the spring down fairly easily. On the new cap.. it's quite a lot harder to push the new one down then the old one: I must have only been holding 8-10 PSI instead of the 18 or so they're rated for. Also, the design has changed slightly... the writing on the outside has changed a bit and the components inside look a bit better built. The spring on the new Rad cap also looks abit "shorter" overall as well. Anyhow, if you haven't replaced your cap in the last 2 years, its probably not a bad idea... 15$ cdn.. so 10$ USD

Most likely the low coolant light is due to the sensor being bad . Mine does the same thing, I just unplugged it.

I got a new radiator cap at AutoZone for $2.99, but the low coolant light is still on. However, I still think that the radiator cap was bad because it blew off last time the car overheated. Not good.

Your car by all means should not be overheating, and the light is cuased by the low coolant temp sensor down below the cap on the side of the radiator you can see it easy.

The coolant was hot, but definitely not low.

*bonk* lol just because it might not be low doesnt mean the sensor isnt dirty/bad unplug it and see if the light goes off, if it does you need to clean/replace the sensor.
