I thought the Opti can only go on one way... The other thing I noticed was a bad whine/hiss from water pump, but I dont think a bad water pump would keep the car from starting.
Now when I changed the opti, I just changed the internals. Not the rotor and cap.. Rotor and cap were changed about 2 months ago.. Should I have done it all at once??
It is supposed to only go on one way.
Lots of people have managed to put them on wrong. I am not fond of changing the different parts of the opti, especially the vented like you have. When you can get a complete, new GM opti for ~$200, it does not make sense to dink around spending time and probably more money on piece parts.
Don't know where you got your opti "guts", but it might be suspect also.

Well, after replacing the opti, cap, rotor, water pump (because I changed the opti), spark plugs, and inspecting the wires. I figured out what it was.. It was the 3rd from the front wire on the passenger side.. It fried in a way that I couldnt see it without taking the metal heat shield off.
Man oh man, what a weekend. Spent about $400 just to figure out it was a $5 wire.
Atleast I got my 100,000 mile tune up in the process though, so I guess the money wasnt totally wasted..
