replaced all ign. components, still no spark
I have been having some problems lately with the 396. After a month of driving it, it just went dead going down the road. Since then I have replaced: opti, opti wiring harness, coil, PCM, Harness, ICM, and the MSD 6AL, oh and the fuel pump. I have not replaced the crank sensor though. It will turn over, just not crank. I am not getting any spark at the spark plug or the coil to optispark plug. I put a fuel pressure guage on it and it primes to 42 lbs. then when I turn it over it goes down to zero. Is this a problem and what would cause it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Aaron
P.S.--- IF ANYBODY CAN SOLVE MY PROBLEM BEFORE I BRING IT TO THE MECHANIC, I HAVE A BMR TUBULAR STB POWDERCOATED RED THAT I WILL SEND THEM FOR FREE.

hows the fuel pressure regulator? is it stock or do you have an aftermarket one? when you say it will turn over but not crank.. do you mean it will constantly spin if you hold the key down just not fire up?
are you getting spark befor the coil? its possible you got a new bad coil, has happened to me befor

The coil had a pin that was bent so I straightened it out and it still will not crank. So, the only thing left is the crank position sensor. I hope
thanks for all the help guys
I guess it will be going to the mechanic in the morning.

this will guide you through all IGN system testing. lemme know if you have any questions.

Your ignition fuse under the hood is probably blown. I had the same problem. Driving down the road the car just died. It would keep blowing the fuse. I believe it was fuse 11, a 10 amp fuse.
I swapped out the ICM and coil and it still was blowing fuse when driving, it would idle fine without blowing the fuse. It ended up being that I had a bad crankshaft position sensor that was shorting out while under a load. Changed out the sensor and problem was fixed.

same problem over here
i have never heard of pcms going bad as a "common kinda thing" but i am kind of leaning towards it, my dad is coming up here with a lot of diagnostic tools and we are going to go over the whole electrical system that HBH has put up... i will let you know what i find
