replace wires with alternator a must?

My budget is really tight and I was wondering if it would be harmful to my car if I did not upgrade the wires after installing a 200 amp alternator. Can I get away with keeping the stock wiring?

You should not need to up date to a larger gage wire on a late model car for a 200 amp alt. Does the info with the alt. recommend doing this? If so what size wire does it recoomend?

It does not say anything about upgrading the wire size but I was doing searches on this board and many people recommend it. I was concerned if I would do any damage to my car by running the stock wires.
