MSD 8.5wires, spark plug wires touching each other
MSD 8.5wires, spark plug wires touching each other
I have a set on my 94 LT1 and I was wondering if you guys ever experienced the wires arching off each other. I am routing them away from my longtubes and I have some zip tied togther, not using a seperator between them... Any problems with you guys doing something similar...

Re: MSD 8.5wires, spark plug wires touching each other
I had bad problems with that! So, I ended up putting each wire in loom, and electrical taping them shut, then I could route them next to each other. Huge PITA, but I had to make it work. Now I am upgrading to some OTVC wires so I don't have to mess with that crap anymore. Just my experiences, hope it helps!
Re: MSD 8.5wires, spark plug wires touching each other
Instead of the spark traveling all the way down the specific plug wire to the spark plug and sparking, there is less resistance to jump through the insulation and follow down another wire. Typical with worn out old wires.
Mine touch in some spots. Its nearly impossible to run OTVC wires UP to the valve covers without them touching. My car runs much better with OTVC wires BTW.

Re: MSD 8.5wires, spark plug wires touching each other
That could be pretty hard to route OTVC wires though and keep them all 1/2" apart. How do you route them UP to the valve covers?
Once they are up to the top, spacing is not a problem.
But trying to getthem up through the accessory bracket seems impossible to do keeping them that far apart.

Re: MSD 8.5wires, spark plug wires touching each other
I beleave the arching question by robwin95z may have been facetious. As it's spelled arcing not arching.
Use a second wire tie as a spacer between the two wires and around the first wire tie. The spacing is more a mechanical means to eliminate chaffing, which then leads to arcing.
