repair broken dowel pin/cam
repair broken dowel pin/cam
Just curious what I ask the machine shop to do with my cam, the dowel pin is broken and a little bit of a depth inside the camshaft, what do I tell them needs done?
First and foremost, make sure your machine shop works on engines, lots of engines.
They will know what to do. Most likely, they will just drill it out. Provide them with a new pin with the correct length.JMHO

yep.
reason i say its a retarted question is you should tell them to do anythgin... give them the cam and ask them to fix it.
they are the machine shop and should know how to do their job.
if you have to go tell them how to do their job then i would look for another machine shop.

I would just have them remove it. The pins are just pounded im. It doesn't take much to get them stuck in and a beech to get out. There is no need to have it welded!
Be certain to reference the correct dowel height from the face of the cam. I think it is like a max of .620" and a max dowel OD of .250". Vary from this and you might crap out the bearing in your opti.
