Removing some sub-systems. What can go?

I don't think the LT1 would be nearly as bad to work on if it had less knuckle-knocking sub systems crammed in the engine bay. I don't have emissions in my area, so I'd like to get rid of a few.

1) EGR. I blocked off the tube connector on the back of the intake manifold, and on the header. The big black control solenoid thingy on the back of the intake manifold was blocked and gone when I bought the car. There is also some sort of black, electronic control box on the rear driver side of the intake manifold. Can I get rid of that as well?

2) AIR system. Can I remove the AIR pump, and all of its tubing, without serious consequence? Obviously I would block off the AIR inlets in the headers as well, and secure the electrical pigtail somewhere.

3) STEAM TUBE. What are the consequences of removing the steam tube? Obviously, I would block off the hole in the back of the heads, and block the hole in the radiator. Would this cause overheating or anything?

Yes you can get rid of that, it is the vacuum solenoid for the egr. Block off vacuum lines. You will need a tune for the dtc.

All of that can go, block off as required. Do you have cats on the car? You will need a tune for the dtc.

This MUST stay on, no ifs, ands, or buts, it allows the air to bleed from the heads.

I've eliminated AIR, EGR, EVAP (no strong fuel smells as some claim)....

Leave your crossover coolant line in.

I'm expecting codes from the removed EGR and AIR. I can live with that. I'll get them tuned out before too long.

The coolant crossover absolutley has to stay on? Roger that.

Shoebox has a photo of all the EGR components with their correct part names:

Since you have an OBD-I 94, as long as you keep a good fuse in the AIR pump circuit, you will not get a code for removing the pump and the rest of the system. As far as EGR is concerned, put a resistor in the harness connector for the EGR vacuum solenoid and there is no code for that being missing. The EGR flow diagnostic is not very sensitive in the OBD-I's, so I guess that 80% of the people who remove the EGR don't get a code/SES light. You indicate the system has already been partially removed/blocked, so if you aren't getting a flow code now, you won't get on for removing the balance of the system.

sorry to hijack here. Got a question about !evap.

My 97 has this canister:

and connected to it is this canister:

what does each one do? My 95 z28 only had the first one (one with the red plug). Why does my 97 have both?

Im planning on pulling both of them and putting some resistors in there.
