Timing Chain

I got a 94 lt1 and I bought a AC Delco Mechanical Waterpump and a Cloyes Timing chain, that will work together right? Does the waterpump need to be Electrical?

Water pump needs to be electric to use that timing chain.

Look at the description. Looks like you need a vented opti setup to run that set.

Honestly you would have been completely fine with a stock set.
Everyone loves to tell you to "upgrade" the stock set but reality is it is very reliable.

Best I can tell off the site from sumitt its for a vented opti witch is 1995 & up. Yours is unvented unless someone has changed it.
Like 96capricemgr said you are probally better off with a new stock style set up.

The 94 uses a spline drive opti. The cam gear needs to have the spline drive in it. The 95 and up vented opti is driven off the dowel on the front of the cam, hence no need for the spline cam gear. You will need a timing set for a 94, spline drive opti.

This should help.
Look at the crank gear difference and the timing cover difference.

Honestly if you can return that $360 chain you will be fine just getting a $80 stock setup and put the savings toward something else.

Alright. I just talked to a guy from summit and he said that if I have a 95 and up opti it will work and I just looked at my opti and I think that I have the 95 and up even though I ordered the 94. Will the 95 work on my engine? Im putting in the LT4 Hot Cam, idk if that will have anything to do with it. Can anyone send me some pics of the 93-94 and 95-97 so I can see the difference?

Mine has the fresh air inlet at the top left of it and and a vacum line at the bottom right. What year opti is this?

The MSD cap and rotor kit retrofits the unvented opti to be vented, maybe that is what you have.

You need to look at the drive side of the opti, to tell what type it is.
