Removing the A.I.R. Pump???

Just curious as to what the performance gains if any would be achieved from removing the AIR pump.. also on a scale of 1 - 10 (1 eaisest) how hard is it to remove? Thanks!

No performance gains to be had with the exception of losing a couple pounds from the front end. It does clean up the engine bay a little. Removing the system on an OBD1 car isn't very difficult though.

Scale of 1-10..... 2 I guess. I removed mine when I did the cam this year. Most of it is very easy to remove, the only tricky part was the crossover tube that runs under the motor, I had to cut that in one spot to get it out. If I didn't cut it I would have just left it in there. As mentioned there is no performance gain from removing it, it only runs for the first two minutes at startup to heat the cats up quicker, after that it does nothing. Also with OBDII you will need to have it programmed out to avoid an SES light for it. With that gone, the EGR and now all the A/C equipment it's much easier working on the motor and much cleaner looking

No performance gain but it does clean the engine bay up and if you remove it and the AC you will have a much easier time working on the engine. I yanked all mine out when doing the LT install and if I had known how much room it was gonna give me I would have done it much sooner. IF you don,t have to pass emissions it is one of the best things you can do to make working on the engine less stressful.

On which car???

j/k I assume you mean on the 99. I'm sure there are some differences in the AIR system on the LS1's, when I said you would get a light I was referring to 96-97 OBDII LT1's, not sure about LS1's.
