Re: removing chrome

There are two common ways to remove chrome. The first is hydrochloric acid (muriatic acid). The second is reverse current alkaline stripping--essentially, putting the part in an electrocleaning tank.

The first is fast and simple, but can attack the substrate. The second will not attack the substrate but is more complicated, and it generates hexavalent chromium.

Rumor has it that bleach and oven cleaner work also.

Re: removing chrome

Hexavalent chromium causes cancer and birth defects. Sand blasting should take it off.

Re: removing chrome

hey meanie, no laffing, ha... headers shouldnt be coated inside unless someone did a triple gold bling bling dip for car show purposes. If you sand blast it, I would definately not touch the inside, only the outside. Might wanna wad the tube ends so you dont accidently hit the insides....

Coaters will prep the headers for you. Are you wanting to do this yourself to try and save a few bucks? If not, you should be able to just send them to the coater as is and they'll prep em for ya
