Arrow Removing the cats

Hi,

I am about to install a complete new exhaust system on my 1997 Camaro Z28 5.7L V8. I think I will buy the Hooker Super Competition Long Tube headers from thunderracing.com. The system from the headers and back will be custom made in 3" S/S. Will I gain any power if I remove the cats? Will I have any problems relating to the car/electronics and not thinking about emissions?

How many mufflers will I have to add? Is one in the back enough or will it be too loudly?

Thanks

Re: Removing the cats

If you are running long tubes, then you are going to have to run an off-road y-pipe of some sort. Once you get that y-pipe installed, you will see how much of a chore it is to add a pair of cats. If you can get away with not having them, then I would. If not, it can be done though. One muffler is more then adequate to keep your exhaust to a tame level. Heck, people cannot even tell I am running long tube headers because of the Magnaflow catback I am running.

Re: Removing the cats

Okay - should I buy the JBA Cat-Forward header system including the y-pipe for dual cats in stead - what are the pros and cons re. the long tube headers and the JBA system?

Thanks

Re: Removing the cats

i just picked up my car from the shop its noticeably louder and gets insane at WOT but sounds just like a magnaflow catback at lower gas positions, i had the shop build me a custom 3" exhaust with a magnaflow muffler/tips just alittle bit more tingy and cleaner sounding (no popping just pure muscle sounding vibrations) im so happy with the sound and performance
