Remove heater core? how? where?

i want to remove my heater core, is this a difficult job? Should i do it ? my car never sees cold weather, and i never use defrosters or anything? i figured id save the weight and eliminate a potential future problem.

You need to remove the entire dash assembly. Then there are a bunch of bolts holding the entire heater box in place. There is one directly behind the engine thats hard to see. It's kind of a pain to remove it without breaking the whole thing. Figure at least a couple solid hours to do it and possibly having someone to help you when pulling the dash out. You also need to buy or make a plate to cover the giant hole that will be left in your firewall too. If you remove all that garbage behind the dash and all the heater hoses and stuff there is a lot of weight to be saved and it cleans up the engine bay a lot.

I got caught in a freak rainstorm the first time I drove my car after I removed all the heater and AC parts and you realize what the heater is for then. It was interesting sticking my head out the window while it was pouring because I couldn't see past the fogged up window (that and my wipers decided to not work).

You don't have to take the whole dash out just to remove the heater core. There is a cover on the inside to remove and the hoses and a retainer between the pipes on the outside. I have seen some posts where people said it was much easier than they thought.

I took everything out behind the dash that I could find when I pulled mine out. That included all the plastic hvac tubing, heater boxes, sound deadening, etc..

When I pulled the thing I honestly didn't see a way to pull just the core out. My bad.
