Relocated Battery to Trunk, Alternator not Charging

I Relocated my Battery to the trunk in my 94 Z28. I used a Summit Wirring kit (large wiring Kit and Terminals) to hook everything up.. I also used a Painless Wiring Shutoff Switch and Alternator Shutoff Switch so when I am at the track they can tech my car and shut it off with the Battery Switch. My problem is this. When I start the car the AMP meter in the Cluster gauge is in the red, my car is not charging properly. I am thinking that the problem is that I am not using big enough wire from the alternator back to the battery disconect switch (the wire that I am using came with the Painless Wiring Kit) Could I just run a 10 gauge wire from the alternator to the Positive Power block on the passengers wheelwell and would that fix my charging problem? Anyone else have any expericance/suggestions? Thanks
